Privacy Policy

TasteFilter is a Chrome extension that scores posts on X (Twitter) based on your personal taste profile. This policy explains what data we handle and how.

Data we collect

TasteFilter does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to any server operated by us. All data generated by the extension stays on your device.

Specifically, the following is stored locally in your browser using Chrome's storage.local API and never leaves your device:

Your taste profile (the text description you provide)
Your AI provider settings (provider name, base URL, model name)
Your API key
Your feedback history (Accurate / Off ratings on posts)
Your block list

Data sent to third-party AI providers

To score posts, TasteFilter sends the text content of posts on your screen to the AI provider you configure (e.g. Groq, OpenAI, Anthropic, or a local Ollama instance). This is done directly from your browser using your own API key.

We do not proxy, intercept, or log these requests.
The data is governed by your chosen provider's privacy policy.
If you use a local model (Ollama), no data leaves your device at all.

Permissions

TasteFilter requests the following Chrome permissions:

storage — to save your taste profile and settings locally.
host permissions for x.com and twitter.com — to read and score posts in your feed.
optional host permissions (https://*, http://*) — to connect to your chosen AI provider's API endpoint.

No analytics or tracking

TasteFilter contains no analytics, crash reporting, advertising SDKs, or any form of tracking. We do not know who uses the extension or how it is used.

Children's privacy

TasteFilter is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect any data from children.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
